Tremendous progress over the last ten years in the availability of big data in biology, advanced machine learning algorithms and high performance computing has created the groundwork for transformational AIpowered new ways of performing drug discovery and the whole drug development process. AI/ML is pushing the boundaries of drug discovery from the earliest stage of filling gaps in our understanding of biology to de novo drug design, ADMET (absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and toxicity) properties prediction, clinical trial design and manufacturability improvement, thereby creating potential to significantly increase efficiency in the (bio)pharmaceutical R&D process.
